| Over het wijnhuis | Château Léoville Poyferré is 2ème Grand Cru Classé uit Saint-Julien. De oorsprong van het château gaat terug tot 1638. In die tijd was Léoville het grootste landgoed van de Médoc, maar heeft verschillende eigenaren gekend die uiteindelijk resulteerden in een opsplitsing van het château in meerdere huizen. De in Bordeaux bekende Cuvelier-familie is sinds 1979 eigenaar van Château Léoville Poyferré. |

A potent, resonant wine, the Pavillon pulses with textural intensity. Dark red cherry, chalk, mint, white pepper, cedar and dried flowers all race across the palate. The Pavillon is a blend from young plantings that have been replanted in old vines (about 2% a year), young-vine parcels and end rows, where yields are always a bit higher than they are in the central portions of the vineyard. The 2021 is an exquisite wine and a fine option for readers looking for a reasonably priced alternative to Bordeaux's high-flyers. Damsons and boysenberries. Round and mouth filling but with such a satisfying texture - smooth and sensual, tannins still to the fore but so silky, they finely coat the mouth giving support and grip. There is a lovely delicacy here, feels well worked, so elegant yet filled with energy and life. Really appealing, still with intensity but so well packaged and I love the Cabernet aspects on the palate, the florality, the black pepper and crushed stone giving a salinity at the end.
