Awards | "Mulberries, blackberries and a touch of black pepper on the nose. Dusty tannins on the full-bodied palate, with a densely packed finish. Pretty long and broad. This needs two to three years in the bottle. Drink from 2027." - James Suckling "Full bottle 1,274 g. Vines on gravel over sandy clay. 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot. pH 3.83. 18 months in third-use oak barrels. Bottled June 2024. Inky dark crimson with black core and deepest crimson rim. Saturated colour. Sweet, dense fruit of blackberry and blackcurrant, sweet and biscuity/spicy but with a piercing cassis core. The sweet-savoury impression of roasted potato skins. Thick, chewy tannins. Rich, dramatic fruit, powerful and still fresh. A powerful young wine, all in balance for a long future and an attractive dry stony/chalky elegance on the finish. Not in the least tiring even though it is so young. (JH)" - Jancis Robinson "The 2022 Pavillon de Léoville-Poyferré is bold and explosive in the glass. A heady second wine, Pavillon packs a pretty serious punch. Dark red-toned fruit, gravel, licorice, incense and chocolate show the extroverted side of the vintage. Ripeness is definitely on the pushed side, while the tannins are pretty imposing, especially for a second wine." - Vinous "A grippy, strapping style, with bramble-laced black currant, plum and boysenberry reduction flavors carried by a fine-grained structure through the finish, accented by anise, violet and warm cast iron. Very much in the vintage profile. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2027 through 2038." - Wine Spectator "Lovely wild blackberries, liquorice and dark chocolate aromas on the nose. Smooth and succulent, this has bite and tang - the fine tannins giving a powdery mouthfeel while the juicy acidity adds freshness to the ripe bramble fruit. Crushed stones, mint and slate come through towards the finish adding a mineral touch with soft oak spices adding another layer of complexity. Quietly powerful, but balanced and harmonious with a finessed feel." - Decanter |
